Sometimes a building system takes the name of the designer and company and the Lindapter system of steel building construction is one of those in question. The Lindapter fixing system is a superb system for joining steel parts together to form a finished steel structure. It has developed over the past 70 years and is a standard steel erection system. It is carried out by a series of clamps which clamp the various parts together without the need of welding or drilling and bolting.
The Lindaptor system uses a series of specialist clamps made from steel and bright zinc plated and hot dipped galvanised to provide protection and prolong life in all weather and working place conditions. The clamping plates have a serrated surface to stop rotation on tightening. All the joints on this system are clamped joints provided by a large range of different clamps designed for all types of clamping conditions. Clamps need to be adaptable to different angles and different sizes.
The major advantage for steel erection is that they provide a very fast and adaptable construction process. Basically the beams are just held into position manually or with suitable lifting equipment and the clamps are tightened into position. The clamps can be quite complex in their design as they are quite capable of making any angled, vertical or horizontal fixing. The major requirement is for the operator to have a good working knowledge of the different types of clamps and their correct fixing to get the fastest erection speeds but it is also quite safe for a good standard workman to erect safely and securely provided the correct systems are obeyed. A good supplier will advise you on the correct clamps and fittings for any steel erection project.
The clamps are safe and secure because of the care taken at the design stage, the clamps besides have a serrated face also have a protruding lip that fits over the edge of the steel beam to stop the clamp from turning. The clamping bolt is held in a recess in the clamp shaped to the bolt head so that it will not turn on tightening and only the nut will be tightened. This system is adaptable in that unlike drilled and bolted structures in which it is difficult to deal with imperfections in the base surface or other changes that may occur in the erection stage, this clamping system is very easy to change by changing the positions of the clamps.
